Since 1991, Committee R/I reviews the legality, efficiency and coordination of the operations of the two Belgian intelligence services, State Security (VSSE) and the General Intelligence and Security Service (GISS).

Since 2006, together with the Police Monitoring Committee (Committee P), the Committee also reviews the operations of the Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis (CUTA) and its supporting services. This review of CUTA relates to the legality, efficiency and coordination. The review of the supporting services relates exclusively to their obligation to share information on terrorism and extremism with CUTA.
