DATA PROTECTION AUTHORITY

As the data protection authority for personal data processing that falls within the scope of national security, Committee R/I is competent to review the processing carried out:

  • By State Security and GISS;
  • In the context of security clearances and advice (in particular, processing carried out by the National Security Authority or a security officer);
  • By CUTA, through a joint review with Committee P;
  • In the common database Terrorism, Extremism, Radicalisation Processes, through a joint review with the COC;
  • By the Passenger Information Unit in the context of an intelligence operation;
  • By the SIM Commission (Administrative Commission responsible for monitoring the specific and exceptional methods of data collection by the intelligence and security services).

As data protection authority, the Committee may:

  • Carry out investigation reviews (View Investigation reports);
  • Handle individual requests (Find out more about the handling of Complaints, denunciations and requests);
  • Issue legal advice when the law requires its advice or at the request of the Chamber of Representatives, or the competent minister (Art. 33, paragraph 8, Review Act). This type of advice deals specifically with data processing issues (View the legal advice).
