COMPLAINTS
The Committee handles three categories of complaints. Complaints may concern:
- The operations of State Security, GISS, CUTA or one of its supporting services;
- The processing of personal data carried out in the context of national security.
- The processing of personal data carried out in the context of national security.
The Committee’s responsibilities vary depending on the category of the complaint.
The Committee acts as a single point of contact. This means that, based on the information it receives from a complainant, the Committee will verify whether the complaint relates to one of these three categories (in other words, if it is responsible for handling the complaint) and, if applicable, whether the complaint is admissible. A complaint can therefore be submitted even if the complainant is unsure which category their complaint falls into.
The Committee is restricted in terms of the information it may share with the complainant. This does not mean that any issues encountered in the course of the investigation will not be handled (this is precisely its role), but that, for reasons of classification, it may not share any information about these issues.
