Committee R/I is the review body for the two Belgian intelligence services, State Security (VSSE) and the General Intelligence and Security Service (GISS). In conjunction with the Police Monitoring Committee (Committee P), it also reviews the operations of the Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis (CUTA) and its various supporting services.

The Committee is also the data protection authority in the field of national security. As such, it ensures compliance with privacy laws and regulations in the processing of personal data carried out in the context of national security.

The Committee also acts as Chair and Secretary for the Appeal Body for security clearances and advice. It is the administrative jurisdiction that processes appeals against refusals to grant a security clearance or against negative security advice.

The Committee is also responsible for reporting breaches of integrity within the intelligence services.
